Thank you for taking a moment to read about an opportunity to partner with Mescal’s Christian Academy (MCA) in Luanda, Kenya! Gateway is coming alongside MCA by providing gently used or new books to their school library. MCA is part of a larger organization called Mescal’s Children’s Center of Hope which provides orphan care and community development services in a rural area of Western Kenya.  As an arm of the greater Mescal’s organization, Mescal’s Christian Academy serves a demographic of materially poor families who could otherwise not afford school fees for their children to attend public school. MCA’s school mission is to “establish a stable, Christian-driven learning environment for the advancement of an intellectual, spiritual, physical and mental child, in growth and prosperity of society and [the] nation at large.” Watch a video about MCA here!

A team from the USA soon will travel to visit our friends in Kenya and hopefully stock the library shelves for the MCA student body (learn more about this project here). To make that possible, Gateway will have a book collection box set up in between the resource center and church offices in the hallway connecting the sanctuary and the nursery area. For this project, we’re seeking gently used or new books on learning levels from Pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. Students at MCA would appreciate any books your family has to offer, with the exception of books specifically related to American history. The students are working on their English skills, so they will gain a lot from books written in the English language. Books can be Christian or secular in content. Anything your family would enjoy reading, the kids at Mescal’s Christian Academy will enjoy reading!
