…to the Ends of the Earth
The Christian life is playing out when we love God and love people everywhere we go. We are not to stay secluded in relationship with other Christians only. We are not to just be with our families. We are also to share the love of Christ with people who do not yet know Him. Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10) and if we know Him and follow Him, we will be caught up in His mission as well.
Our lives are to be characterized by love for people – all people – whether they know Christ or not. If they do not know Him, our call is to make Him known. Right before Jesus ascended into heaven, we see this interaction between Jesus and His disciples in Acts 1:6-8
6So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit will come upon us and give us power to testify to what we have seen and experienced in Jesus. We are witnesses. We are to witness to Christ at home and abroad – everywhere we might go. We live in a world that is interconnected, where travel and communication happens instantly. We are called to witness to Christ and His salvation in all arenas of life, through everything we do, and everywhere we go. We do this by loving God and loving people sacrificially everywhere and through sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with all people.
At Gateway, we encourage every believer to be a witness to Jesus. We can never have enough church programs to reach the people around us. The best ministry that exists is the one where an individual Christian, family, or small group of Christians seeks to minister to other people as they go. We encourage a great deal of creativity and initiative when it comes to sharing the gospel. The best ministry is what happens when we are walking with God and responsive to how He might be putting us in position to love other people through serving them and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with them. God is always working (John 5:17).
We also have many missions opportunities both locally and globally. We work with several ministries here in Montgomery, partner with indigenous ministries in India, take mission trips to various places around the world, and are always open to what God might be leading us to do next. If you would like to participate with us as we follow God in His mission, make that known to an elder or pastor or just start doing something. Others will likely follow along!
