Loving God

We are commanded to love God, but the more we try, the more we find out that we are not able. We live focused on ourselves.  This is called sin and to be restored to God, we need a Savior.  Jesus came to take away our sins and restore us to God.  He enables us to love God by loving us first.  1 John 4:19 tells us that we love God because God first loved us!  Romans 5:8 tells us that God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Our love for God starts with us receiving God’s love for us.  Then, our love for Him is simply a response to His love for us!  It is all grace!  Every bit of obedience, sacrifice, service, and worship to the Lord starts with God’s love for us expressed in the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus, and culminates in our response to that love by giving our lives to Him as a sacrifice of worship (Romans 12:1-2).

It is all about Jesus.

We encourage loving God through times of corporate worship, prayer, and Scripture teaching.  We also enourage every member to be involved in a small group of some kind for further teaching, reflection, and encouragement toward obedience.  Those small groups happen in Sunday School classes, in our LIFE Groups, in our Wednesday Night Small Groups, and in other small group Bible studies that happen throughout the week.

We also encourage every member to spend daily time with God in prayer, Bible study, and reflection on God’s work in their life.  We need to each have a growing personal relationship with God. John 15:9-17 tells us that we love God by obeying His commands.  Time spent with God in the Scriptures help us to know what God’s commands are and help us to obey Him.

A loving relationship with God is one where we receive God’s love for us, we learn to accept ourselves and see ourselves as loved children of God, and where we learn to love others in obedience to Christ, as He loves us.
