God has given to us, His people, an amazing mission to glorify Him with our lives and to make Him known to others.2 Corinthians 5:17-21 gives us a glimpse of this mission He has given to us:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

We believe that God in His sovereign plan has put us in Montgomery for a reason. We desire to be a blessing to this community and a light to those around us here. We also know that God's heart is for all the nations (people groups) to worship Him. Therefore, we are intentional in taking the Gospel to peoples around the world who have never heard.

In addition to the local and global efforts you see below, our elders are currently working on a comprehensive missions strategy for Gateway, looking at how God has gifted us and where He is leading us to focus our efforts.

LOCAL MISSIONS

  • Gateway strives by God's grace to be a blessing to our community and share the hope of Christ with those around us here. Our current work in Montgomery includes:

    • Fishers Farm
Fishers Farm is a residential rehab program for men with life-dominating sins.  Through biblical counseling, intensive discipleship, a residential program, and a close connection with the local church, the men at Fishers Farm are able to experience God's grace bringing them freedom.  The director, Jeff Hand, is a member of Gateway, two Gateway members (including our lead pastor) serve on the board of directors, and the men in the program are an active part of the Gateway community.  In addition, Gateway financially supports the ministry through the budget each year.  Many members are involved in helping at "The Farm" and being part of the discipleship and encouragement these men need. • HOPES School Outreach
Gateway members Seth and Megan Rhodebeck began a before school Bible study at Capitol Heights Middle School more than 15 years ago.  That study has now grown into a ministry that serves one of the neediest schools in our city and sate.  Through two before school Bible studies each week, service projects at the school, a tutoring ministry, a backpack food program, special occasions to encourage teachers and administrators, and service projects on campus, the people of Gateway have regular contact with those at the school.  In addition, some of the men of the church are now part of a new mentoring ministry at a local elementary school  This ministry has now grown to become its own non-profit ministry in the city, enabling people from multiple churches to partner together to help meet the needs of students in Montgomery schools.  Learn more about HOPES (Helping Our Public Education Schools) at www.hopesmgm.org

    • First Choice Women's Medical Center
First Choice provides pregnancy resources, medical care, training, and much more for women facing unplanned pregnancies.  In addition, they provide a Fathers First initiative to train men to become involved, godly dads to their children.  Two Gateway members serve on staff at First Choice, and many others volunteer there and support the ministry.

    • Child Evangelism Fellowship
CEF hosts backyard Bible clubs to take the Gospel to unreached children in Montgomery.  In addition, they equip and train teenagers to be able to effectively share the Gospel.  A Gateway member serves on staff with Montgomery CEF, and many of Gateway's teenagers are involved in helping with the clubs.  In addition, Gateway supports CEF through the budget each year.

    • Montgomery Baptist Association
Gateway contributes from the annual budget to the Montgomery Baptist Association to help with church development, pastor training, and benevolence needs right here in Montgomery.

Gateway members are involved in many other ways throughout the community. As you get to know us, you will find our people scattered throughout all of the river region, seeking to minister to others in neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces.

    INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS

    • Gateway has a heart to see all the peoples of the world worshipping God. We are involved in missions because we desire to see God glorified among all the peoples of the world, and because we want all the peoples of the world to find true joy from knowing their Creator.

Internationally, we have long term partnerships:

      • Global Impact Ministries - Gateway member, Rick Groover, leads this international missions ministry from here in Montgomery.  Global Impact provides pastoral training, discipleship training, and medical care in several African countries.  In addition, they provide disaster relief services in the United States.  Gateway supports GIM through the budget, and members have opportunities to come along side Rick and his team in helping with hands on needs that arise.  Learn more at gimi.world

Former Gateway member, Taylor Foxx, and his family live in France working with the Navigators. As their sending church, Gateway prays for and financially supports their work as they do evangelism and discipleship with college students in their city.
